VRChat Flight Week 2026 Performances
The Japan Virtual Guard BLUE STARS VRChat acrobatic flight team held two regularly scheduled performances on September 12th 22:00 JST and September 13th 21:00 JST, 2026. These events essentially placed BLUE STARS as the opening act for VRChat Flight Week 2026.
As their five aircraft streaked across the sky, the excitement they generated with their live crowds, pictures and videos also spread across social media. This raised awareness of both the BLUE STARS and of Flight Week as a larger than usual international audience awaited the start of VRChat Flight Week 2026 on September 14th, 2026.
We thank the BLUE STARS for their devotion to professional flight performances with real world standards. Some media of the two airshows gathered from social media posts is included below.
About
This is a team that performs demonstration flights using “Sacc’s Flight and Vehicles.”
Training for the initial members began in May 2021, and the team started participating in demonstration flight events in June 2022. This is a small group set up as an internal demonstration team within Japan Virtual Guard, an organization modeled after the Japan Coast Guard. (Japan Virtual Guard exists only as a fictional concept; there is no actual organization.) We perform American-style aerial displays using up to six EA-18G aircraft.
Our display routines are primarily based on those of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s aerobatic team, Blue Impulse, while also drawing inspiration from teams in other countries and incorporating our own unique arrangements.
Unlike other air show teams, our primary focus is on simulating actual aircraft air shows, allowing both the audience and pilots to experience a virtual version of the performance.
In other words, we do not freely alter the aircraft’s flight capabilities to suit our own convenience; instead, we reproduce the actual flight capabilities of real aircraft as accurately as possible—including unfavorable conditions such as unstable attitude control and slow jet engine response—and achieve these flights by requiring pilots to master the skills needed to handle them.
We also do not use any external support mechanisms to assist flight that would be impossible to achieve in the real world.
Oppailot, the team’s founder and flight leader, is an aircraft pilot who has actually served with a Japanese government agency for over 10 years and has logged more than 1,000 flight hours. BLUE STARS’ flights are made possible through his leadership, drawing on this experience and skill.
All team members, who are volunteers, have passed a recruitment process consisting of a written exam, an interview, and a practical exam, and participate in practical training after completing a set of classroom instruction. Our demonstration flights are held on an irregular basis due to the members’ real-life schedules, and the dates are announced via our social media
accounts.
We organize our own events using aircraft and a World environment we have prepared ourselves, but we also perform as guest performers under the banner of other organizations upon request.
In March 2025, we performed a demonstration flight at an event officially hosted by a professor at the University of Tokyo—one of Japan’s most prestigious universities—and were awarded a certificate of appreciation and a medal.
